I grew up in Summerland and moved to the Kootenays after completing my law degree in 1978, to practice law in a small town and to make a home for our family. In my opinion, the adversarial court process does little to assist parties in finding constructive, peaceful and long-term resolutions to their family issues. I have been in court with clients far too often over the years, and have seen the emotional and psychological toll the process takes on parents and children alike. Sadly, this toll often has long-term effects. Fortunately, there is a better way.
In 1985, I became a Certified Family Law Mediator, and have taken hundreds of hours of mediation training since them, including courses in advanced family mediation, commercial mediation and multi-party mediation. In 1999, I became a Collaborative Family Law Practitioner and have taken several advanced courses in CFL practice. In 2000 I was the founder of the CFL practice group in Nelson and served as its co-chair until I moved to Kelowna. I now practice mainly in the field of Family Law Mediation, General Mediation and Collaborative Family Law.
I have helped literally thousands of clients resolve their family separation issues in a sane and dignified manner. I find it very satisfying to see people empowered in the process of crafting their own solutions based on their own unique circumstances. It truly is possible for people to come out at the other end of the process with a sense of accomplishment, with an ability to communicate in the future, and where children are involved, with a sense of pride in being great role models for their children.
I look forward to assisting clients in restructuring their lives and families and financial arrangements, and in moving forward into new beginnings. I offer Mediation services for those who would like to sit down with a helpful, experienced professional to resolve their issues in a supportive environment. I also offer Collaborative Family Law services for those who would like more formal legal representation and emotional support or communication assistance from a support coach.
