Biography: Sam T. Reimer
Sam grew up in Kelowna and received his education in BC, Europe, and the USA where he earned his doctorate in Christian Counselling. He was a prison chaplain and a teacher in Belgium for 11 years. In BC, he has taught at the college level; he has co-produced 18 TV programs: 9 on Boundaries and 9 on Depression and has been an instructor of counselling training. Sam has worked with individuals, couples, families, and groups in various settings, as a student and as a professional, for over 25 years. He is trained in the use of multiple therapies, e.g., EMDR, TAT, EFT, Cognitive Behavioral, Guided Imagery, and Pastoral. He is trained to conduct Custody and Access Assessments. Sam also has a certificate in Trauma Counselling from the BC Justice Institute, as well as Critical Incident Stress Debriefing training. Sam counsels people in an eclectic pragmatic manner using spiritual principles (when requested) with a variety of issues including abuse, addictions, anger and stress, depression and grief, relationships, and trauma, including PTSD. He is also a trained and experienced Collaborative Family Law Divorce Coach.
Happily remarried, Sam is a lover of life and enjoys helping others experience more peace and happiness. Sam founded and developed Restoration Counselling Services while employed by the Kelowna Salvation Army in 1993. Since 1995 has directed his own private practice, offering flexible venues and accessible services. As a co-facilitator, he contracts with the Kelowna Family Centre in presenting the "Parenting After Separation" sessions. Sam also facilitates "Stress and Anger Management & Conflict Resolution". He contracts with nine EFAP providers as well as third party payers WCB and ICBC.
Sam became a member of the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors in July 1996 and has been Vice-President of Region 3 since November 1996. As a Vice-President on the Board of Directors, Sam is enthusiastic in conveying members' concerns and suggestions to the Board; he also seeks to encourage the RCCs in his Region in concrete ways to be the best counsellors possible. Sam volunteers his time and energies further by serving on the Registration Committee. He also volunteers regularly for the BC Schizophrenia Society in his community by occasionally teaching the 12-week "Family-to-Family" course. He is continually involved in helping people to discover, restore, and/or maintain a sense of wholeness, balance, and healthiness in their emotional life and in their relationships.
