I have a Masters in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia and am a certified member of the Canadian Counselling Association. As a person centered counselor working with individuals and couples since 1985, I have been incorporating Marshall Rosenberg's model of NVC (nonviolent or Mindful communication) into my counselling practice for the last 10 years. I have done a 9 month mediation training using the NVC framework with Ike Lasater & John Kinyon in the Growing Compassion program in California. I work with a way of thinking and speaking that supports understanding, emotional intelligence and value based decision- making.
I am an adjunct professor in the faculty of Health and Social Development at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan campus, and recently taught relational practice to first and fourth year nursing students (which involved incorporating many concepts from Mindful Communication). I teach Mindful Communication at Okanagan College. I am also a bereavement counselor with the Central Okanagan Hospice Association.
