Karyn began her career with a Bachelor of Education in 1996 from the University of Alberta. After several years of teaching, first in Osoyoos and then in Calgary, Karyn returned to law school at the University of Calgary and was called to the British Columbia Bar in 2008. She joined Doak Shirreff LLP in 2010, and practices primarily in the area of Family Law.
Karyn’s confident and easy-going manner allows her to work with clients who are experiencing important and often stressful life situations. Karyn’s family law practice involves advocating for her clients using cooperative means to resolve disputes, and where necessary, litigation. Whether a client requires a cohabitation agreement or a divorce (or anything in between) Karyn recognizes that these are delicate and difficult decisions. Her goal is to help clients understand their legal rights and guide them through the family process.
Karyn enjoys travelling and has recently become a devoted (though novice) surfer. Her love for wine was developed working in Europe, and at one of the valley’s finest wineries. Having taught high-school English and French, Karyn is now putting her background as an educator to good use as a volunteer tutor for Kelowna’s Project Literacy. She has worked with the Kelowna Museum Association and is currently a volunteer fundraiser for the Capital Expansion Campaign of the Kelowna Family YMCA/YWCA.
